In Honor of National IT Professionals Day this week, we're thrilled to shine a spotlight on one of our IT and Security Service champions: Nicki Brock, Senior Director, Enterprise Applications. With an impressive 11.5 years at KORE, Nicki is not only a tech wizard but also a dedicated leader. Her passion extends beyond enterprise applications; she’s also a proud South Florida Bull, holds the esteemed title of President of Naples Pride, and boasts an unwavering passion for all things Lego!
Q: Everyone has their own morning routine. It’s important for people to get their day going. Walk us through your typical morning routine.
A: My morning routine has changed a lot over the years – I used to be one of those people who got up at 4:30 in the morning to go running. Now, my day looks a bit different! I manage an amazing team in India, so my morning starts with 7:00am sync-up calls with them – always in my pajamas.
Q: Tell us a little bit about your office. What do you keep on your desk?
A: I love to take notes, so I have a notepad and a dry-erase board both on my desk. My other mainstays are minifigures of R2-D2 and C-3PO along with a piece of shungite, which I frequently play with in my hands to help keep me calm.
Q: What’s a mistake you made early on in your career, and what did you learn from it?
A: Saying yes to EVERYTHING – I literally never said no! So, while I was able to learn a ton from that, I was also very burnt out and working entirely too many hours. I’ve learned that I cannot possibly say yes to everything, nor can I be an expert on all things.
Q: How did you get started in this industry?
A: By a bit of luck! My background is in science, but I’ve always loved technology. I found my way to KORE via a job posting on Craigslist circa 2012. Once I was with KORE, my passion for Enterprise Applications and the frictionless user experience was ignited and continued to grow as my role evolved.
Q: How would your 10-year-old self react to what you do now?
A: My 10-year-old self would think wow, Nicki has really cool hair now and is super cool…10-year-old Nicki would totally be a fan of Nicki today!
Q: Can you tell us about a project at work you are most proud of?
A: I’ve been a part of so many cool projects at KORE that it is difficult to pick just one! Within the last year, I have started a Female of KORE Group, where anyone who is female or non-binary is welcome. We meet once a month, with a different theme for each session. We have done breakout sessions, book reviews & even have had guest speakers. Equality and Equity in the workplace are two things that I am very passionate about, and this group allows us to dig into these topics.
