KORE Connections: Mike Santer, Carrier Relations Manager

4 minute read

In a world obsessed with connections, from fast streaming services, to building personal networks, to even connected cities and homes, it is the personal connections that matter the most – that is why we are proud to introduce KORE Connections. This new forum is a Q&A series where our thought leaders and innovators can share their perspectives on life, innovations, and business which could help you in building your own connections.

Mike Santer serves as Carrier Relations Manager at KORE covering the EMEA and APAC regions. He has been with the team for just over two years now. With a background in tech for nearly 35 years, Mike’s passion for connectivity brings him experience in a variety of areas in the emerging technologies space. Outside of work, Mike loves to cook, play the trumpet, and spend time with his friends and family. Mike lives in the United Kingdom with his wife and has two adult children, one grandchild, and another on the way.

Q: What’s the most exciting part of your job?

A: The collaboration with my colleagues is one of the most exciting parts of my job. KORE is packed with talent, and I feel thankful to work with others that love to solve problems like I do. We are a diverse company with lots of people to engage and connect with. I also love the innovation behind what I do: solving complex problems, coming up with solutions, and closing contracts with customers are all very exciting as well.

Q: What does a typical morning look like for you?

A: My mornings start pretty early! The first priority is coffee, of course. And then I will jump in the hot tub to start my day off right. I think, reflect, and pray on the day, and then catch up on the news and my emails. After I’m ready and at my desk, I’ll start to tackle my to-do list and plan my workday.

Q: Who do you look up to within the company?

A: Truthfully, lots of people! Everyone I’ve met is wonderful and so intelligent. However, Peter Holt, my direct manager, is someone I work with closely and I really admire his drive and integrity. He helps me not only develop as an employee, but as a person too. I also work closely with Paul Eberling (Carrier Management) He is so immensely knowledgeable, helpful, patient, and humble, and is always willing to help me whenever I need it! Lastly, Geoff Jenkins (EAP Sales) because I look up to his work ethic. He is based in Australia, so I know he must be waking up early and staying up late to accommodate meetings for customers globally.

Q: What’s the best career advice you’ve ever heard?

A: I’ve heard quite a bit of career advice, so it’s hard to narrow down just one! Here are my top five pieces of advice:

  1. Be relational. Don’t treat people like a transaction.
  2. Treat your career as a journey! And enjoy the ride.
  3. Be a positive voice in all situations.
  4. Be true to your word and deliver what you say on time.
  5. Always ask questions! Consider other points of perspective.

Q: What is your favorite part of the holiday season?

A: Well, my least favorite part is ordering a taxi or making a reservation at a restaurant because everyone always thinks I’m joking due to my last name (Santer) – ha! Jokes aside, the holiday season is one of my favorite times of year, as it brings such a special feeling in the air. I truly love the joy and slowness of the season, being able to reflect on the year, and spending time with my loved ones.
