Google Cloud Platform Migration to KORE OmniCore – Five Steps to Success

3 minute read

Technology migrations can be very challenging and potentially create anxieties along the way. Whether it is high costs, bumping into unforeseen difficulties, critical components of the technology stack going offline, or not meeting migration requirements or deadlines, switching technologies can be rife with issues.

Working with the right provider and migrating to the technology most aligned with use case requirements and similarities to the legacy technology or provider are two significant factors that contribute to successful migrations.

Google is retiring its Cloud IoT Core service this year, which puts its existing users in the position of migrating to a new IoT core platform. Businesses running in the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) that depend on connected IoT data must now migrate those devices to a new solution without disrupting operations and mitigating common challenges associated with technology migrations.

The KORE OmniCore is the premier platform for GCP IoT Core migrations because of its similarity to GCP IoT Core with enhanced functionality and comprehensive support to enable seamless migrations.

Just Five Simple Steps to a Seamless Migration

KORE has created a simplified process to ensure that all devices migrating from the GCP IoT Core to OmniCore stay connected.

The process is broken down into five simplified steps to connect to the KORE OmniCore

  1. Subscribe: Beginning in the GCP marketplace, users will subscribe to OmniCore.
  2. Configure: Users will then access OmniCore, register by using their existing Google account credentials, configure devices and field gateways and then configure the Pub/Sub topic.
  3. Migrate: Execute the KORE-provided script to migrate registries, devices, and gateways from GCP IoT Core to KORE OmniCore
  4. Update Devices: Users can then send commands to update the device fleet to point to the new KORE OmniCore address.
  5. Update API URL: The process is completed by updating the API URL. OmniCore offers 100 percent API compatibility with GCP IoT Core APIs.

KORE has enabled organizations to leverage these five simple steps to complete the migration process internally. Alternatively, organizations can leverage KORE professional services to assist with their migration.
